We were happy in Poland

I’m Maya and I was very happy to travel to Poland during the spring vacation. My host- Julia was really nice and caring. The Comenius was very interesting for me, I learned a lot about Poland and the other countries that took part. Szczecin is a lovely city with many interesting places. Everybody was friendly and it was very sad when we were leaving, but I’m happy that we keep in touch. I’m happy that I had the opportunity to visit such a nice country and to meet many wonderful people. J

Hello, Iаm Tsvetelina and I had the opportunity to travel to Poland. When we arrived my host was waiting for me, despite the late hour. She and her family were very excited .They made everything so I felt like I’m at home. Not for a moment I felt lonely or sad. Each day was organized. The first day we had a group walk around the city, next days were planned by the family. I can say that I spent perfect, I found many new friends, and we still keep in touch. I am happy that I was able to go to this wonderful country.

We miss Poland

J'ai vécu une expérience magnifique. Durant ces 6 jours j'ai appris énormément en anglais. Cette une expérience enrichissante grâce a laquelle j'ai fait des rencontres inoubliables. On apprend les coutumes des différents autres pays. Je remercie l'école pour ce voyage, et particulièrement madame Payen qui m'a beaucoup soutenue durant cette expérience.

I miss Poland! I spent a very good time in Poland, and the Comenius project was interesting in all of the points: speaking English in everyday life, meeting lots of different people, discovering Poland, its tradition, landscapes, and a bit of culture. I also made my general knowledge deeper, and learnt a lot about the others countries which taking part in the project. I was on both sides of the project, I hosted and was hosted and of course and learnt each time diferent things. I was very glad to see the solidarity with the group, we made a lot of activities together and had a lot of fun! I hope I can go back in Poland and also see all the friends I met!

My Trip to Poland

Friday - 1st April 2011

Our journey started on Friday from Alicante. We flew to Berlin, Germany. In Alicante airport me and the other girl from Spain, Merche, met the teachers who were going to fly with us.

In Berlin airport we met other Comenius members from Belgium. We continued our journey to Szczecin with the Belgians in a small bus.
When we arrived to Szczecin we went to the hotel where we waited for our host families. I was really nervous. My first impressions were good, because the family was very friendly, honest, nice and religious, but it wasn't a problem.

About the landscape and climate, the weather was cold but it was okay. The cold was different from the cold of Spain, if you put on a coat you were fine, not like in Murcia because here you are cold all the time. The landscape was very beautiful, a little green and grayish, everything seems sad, but I liked it.

The house of my family was a small flat. It was unusual for me. It has only one floor and it had a bathroom without WC, and a toilet separately. It wasn't together, for me it was very strange. The rest of the rooms were the same as mine, with a living room, the kitchen and the bedrooms. But they had religious paintings and photos in all parts of the walls and furniture. I had to pray with the family before eating and I went on Sunday to the church to go to mass. It was my first time!

The school was smaller than ours in Spain but it was more beautiful. The atmosphere of the people was different too, because the students in class were polite, hard working and they were in absolute silence. The teacher could explain perfectly the lessons without interruptions. I would like to be in a class like this, in Spain it is very difficult. Most of the students at school could talk in English and they could have conversations with you. It was a great experience.

The best parts of my trip were: when I sang on the bus and the students and teachers from the Comenius project started applauding me. They invited me to sing in the theatre in a celebration from school, but I didn't accept because I was really embarrased. In addition, when we went to Aleksandra’s house and we made a barbecue, we ate sausages with bread, chips... and some guys and girls took beer for drink. The night was very funny, we got to know ourselves so much better. And the last best part I think it was when we were in a pub called "Kontrast" where there were groups of rock playing and the people of the Comenius project spent the last time together, it was very emotional. Well, also the days of shopping and the evening in the bowling were amazing.

The worst part was saying goodbye to everyone, fortunately we are keeping contact on Facebook.

About the food it was weird and very different from the food in Spain. The soup was made with spaghetti and most of the plates had carrots and hot spices. About the drink, they usually put lemon to the water and one of the favourite juices was the carrot juice instead of orange juice like here in Spain. In this journey I've tried new interesting kinds of food. I hope to go back to Poland again.

My Trip to Thuin

Hello!
I am Miriam, I am 15 years old. I visited Belgium last January during a Comenius project meeting.
On Friday:
I got up at 3 o’clock, afterwards I went to the airport in Alicante. My airplane took off at 6.35. It was about a two hour journey. We arrived at about 9 o’clock. When we arrived it was very cold, it was -1degree. After that we went to school in Thuin. Later, we visited Thuin, it is a beautiful city, it has got about 12000 people. Afterwards, at about 12 o’clock we went to the hotel, and then we went to have lunch at about 2 o’clock. I ate a big pizza, but I didn’t eat all because I was full. When we finished, we went to the Carnival museum, and we went to the teachers’ hotel. At about 6.30 we went to have dinner (In Belgium, they have dinner early) but I didn’t have dinner because I wasn’t hungry. When they finished, we went to the hotel to be picked up. In the evening it snowed a bit.
After that we arrived at Larissa’s house (Larissa’s family was my family in Belgium) Her mother is Veroniqué; she was very helpful with me, her father is Nicolás and he was helpful with me too, and her sister is very friendly and very crazy and happy, she is Clara, and Larissa is a very good and beautiful girl and helpful with me. We went to bed at about 11 o’clock.
On Saturday:
I got up at 11.30 because I was very tired. I had hunch as 1 o‘clock; and after having lunch in the afternoon we went to Larissa’s competition. At about seven we went to Brusels, it is a very beautiful and big city, I like it. We had dinner in a bar, I had French potatoes for dinner, they are very nice, I like them very much. After lunch we visited Brusels, and I visited a Cathedral and an important monument ‘’Manneken pis’’ and “Atomium” it is very big and very beautiful. We arrived home at 11 o’clock.
On Sunday:
In the morning I got up at 7.05 because we went to the teacher’s hotel. We went to Oostende and it has got a sea but it started to rain, and we went to have lunch. We had macarroni for lunch with bechamel and ham. In the afternoon we went shopping and Larissa and me ate a waffel. We went to Brugge at about 3o’clock. Brugge is a rural village, it has got a big river and the landscape is green. It was very cold. At 5.30 we went to the bus. It was about a 2 hour journey. When we arrived, Larissa and me went home and we had potatoes with beef for dinner. Afterwards I surfed the Internet and I went to bed at 10.30.
On Monday:
I got up as 6.30 because we went to school. The school starts at 8.05. It is different from the schools in Spain, because they have got a two hours, after that they have got a break after the break they have got two hours of lessons again, and after the lessons they have got a one hour to have lunch. Then they have got four hours. The lessons finish at 4.10.
I ate a jam and cheese sandwich for lunch.
In the afternoon her father didn’t let us go bowling, because her father is serious. Then we played tennis.
On Tuesday:
We got up at 6.30 too, because we went to school, but today the lessons finished at 3 o’clock because the teacher didn’t arrive. In the afternoon we went shopping to Nivelles, it is very expensive, although I bought one ring and a scarf and we arrived home at 9.30. Larissa’s family gave me a shirt and biscuits. They are very kind.
On Wednesday
We got up at 6 o’clock, afterwards we went to the hotel because my plane left at 9.35 but it was delayed and it arrived at 10 o’clock. We arrived were in Spain at about 12 o’clock. I had a wonderful time in Belgium!!

Friday 15^th October I took the plane, with Julia and Marion, to Birmingham. At the airport we met the Finnish people I was glad because I like meeting new people they were kind and we talked a bit with them before taking the plane.

We arrived in Birmingham at about 9.30 pm, and then we met our host families. It was a bit stressing because we didn’t know what to do. Sam and his father brought me to their house and then I met the rest of the family, Sam’s mother and little sister they were veryfriendly. It was good to meet them. I showed them some documents about Thuin and Belgium they looked very interested.

Saturday 16^th October I woke up at 7.30pm (yes I was tired) and then we went to Sam’s string orchestra. There were about 70 people in it, it was really impressive to listen to. We stayed there a while and then Ray (Sam’s father) brought me to his work to show me what he does. Basically he produces flyers/prints to the restaurants, the parties,... He was very excited to show that to me that was funny, I enjoyed it. After a little ride downtown we took Sam back to his orchestra. That midday we ate at Macdonald. LaterRay showed me the channels and typical things in the city. The rest of the day I went to Ray’s wife library, it is different from here because there were lots of kids playing the Wii, and other games. Good atmosphere. In the evening I came back home… tired.

Sunday 17^th October

I could taste a typical English breakfast, I don’t need to tell more about it but it was delightful! Afterwards we went to visit the town, the Selfridges was huge I had never seen such a big mall before that. We visited the church,…That family was practitioner catholic. In the afternoon we went to something like a meeting. There was a preacher (I suppose) who told us about Jesus and who asked us some questions. It was philosophic.

The evening came, I could taste a typical English Christmas meal.

Monday 18^th October

First day at school! I found back Julia and Marion it was good to hear what they had done. We went to a girls school called ‘Selly park technology school’. It was big. We had lessons like English technologic,…Later I could meet the other students from the Comenius project through some team activities.

At the end we came back to Archbishop School. I ate Fish and Chips with mashed peas that evening. It was delicious.

Tuesday 19th October

I went to school with Sam. I had never seen such a huge school before! I attended all the lessons with him. It was weird because everyone was looking at me and was asking to Sam about my name, how old I was,…but they were funny and kind, I had a free lunch at the canteen that midday. I saw that after school people could stay and do some activities. Sam was in a band with his friends and one of his teachers I could attend the practice.

That evening Ray showed me the Spitfires (a sort of plane) that were very important for England during the world war. I saw some very expensive cars too. Back at home they gave me some presents (very kind of them).

Wednesday 20^th October

I got up early said good bye to Sam because he couldn’t bring me to the airport then with the rest of the family we took a magnetic train (Ray told me that the train was floating in the air) we arrived at the airport. My teachers met my host family. I thanked Ray and his wife Anne for everything and they went away. Later we took the plane and we were back in Belgium.

I also went to Birmingham!!

Last October I went to Birmingham and I was in Kiri’s house. I’m going to tell you what I did while I was there.

Friday – The plain arrived, and we caught a taxi to go to the school. Selly Park Technology College for girls is a little school but I loved it. Patricia and I went to school to met Kiri and Beth (I remember that the first day we couldn’t understand anything!). After that I went to Kiri’s house and we were watching ‘Friends’ until her mom and her sister came back home. Finaly we had dinner: a typical British meal: fish and chips.

Saturday – We stayed at home all day, except for 30 minutes that we went to a park but it was so cold and we came back early. In the evening I met Kiri’s family, her uncle, her aunt and her cousins Megan and George. We went to bed not too late because next day we were going to go to Cadbury’s World.

Sunday – I went to a chocolate factory called Cadbury’s World. It was so funny and it smelled very well! Patricia and I bought a lot of chocolate for our family and friends. In the afternoon I met Kiri’s mom’s friends and we were watching a movie.

Monday – I went to Kiri’s lessons: English and Chemistry. After that all the students from the Comenius Project went to a concert. Some girls sang songs and others played some instruments like the piano and the violin. When school finished, we went shopping to the Bullring, and we bought a lot of things!

Tuesday – Patricia, Beth, Kiri and me visited Achbishop Ilsley Catholic Technology College. We were with a student from this school, Molly. She was very friendly with us and we had a good time. After school we went to Beth’s house but we couldn’t open the door because Beth forgot the key, we tried to come into the house while it was raining, Finally we went to a neighbours’s house.

Wednesday – We woke up early and Kiri’s mom led us to school with my suitcases. I said goodbye to my host family while I was on the taxi, and I cried a lot.
Now, I’m in Spain and I miss them so much. This is an experience that I’ll never forget.

BIRMINGHAM

I enjoyed very much in Birmingham. Everything was very different from Spain. About the weather it was very cold, in the morning I couldn’t go out, but it only rained for two days.

The food wasn’t very different from Spain; I ate sandwiches, pizza, McDonald’s, fish and chips and chicken.

The school moved me. Beth’s school was only for girls and it was very different from ours. The majority of girls were from other countries but the link with them was very good.

Selly Park was a very peaceful and beautiful area. There were a lot of very big and green parks. The neighbours were nice and they helped us in a difficult moment.

On Sunday, Maria and I went to the chocolate factory, it is impressive and it smells very good.

The people in this town are very shy and they speak very little but my host-friend, Beth, was very funny and she was “crazy”!!

Finally, I must say that I enjoyed myself very much. This experience has been unforgettable. I would recommend everyone that isn’t sure whether to travel to other country or not, to do it because it is great to meet other people and other cultures.

Unforgettable days in Birmingham 15.-20. October 2010...


Friday - October 15th

Our journey started on Friday from Oulu at 15.10 o’clock. We flew to Brussels via Helsinki. In Brussels airport we met other Comenius members from Belgium. After waiting couple hours, we continued our journey to Birmingham with the Belgians. We arrived to Birmingham at 21.35 o’clock local time. Rest of the day went by exploring with our host families.



Saturday - October 16th

Niina spent her day by shopping in the huge shopping centre called Bullring in Birmingham. She also met her host Roisin’s relatives, visited the local museum and went sightseeing. The architecture was amazing and the buildings were beautiful. In the evening she went to have dinner in the Chinese restaurant with Roisin and her mum. Emmi and her host Joseph, his two cousins and his family spent their day in London. During the day they saw some sights, like Big Ben, Tower Bridge, London Eye... The highlight of the day was a rugby match on Wembley Arena. The game was immemorial.


Sunday – October 17th

On Sunday both of the girls spent their day with hosts. Niina’s day included visit to Solihull by buss. There she met her old friend Rhianne and they went to cinema and shopping together. Later Niina, Roisin and her cousin Brogan went to have dinner. In the evening they went to funfair with Roisin’s brothers. The funfair was so much fun and we all had a great time there. Emmi’s day started with watching Joe’s rugby game. After the game they went to the countryside for meeting Joe’s cousins and other relatives. On the evening they all went to the local pub for eating dinner. The countryside was beautiful.


Monday – October 18th

On Monday all Comenius members from Finland, Poland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain and UK went to the Selly Park Technology College for girls. There was organized different kind of team works. Groups had to build a tower of balloons, transport the ball in different forms and build a stretcher using as little as possible given materials. Group works were really funny. Pupils of the school presented wonderful musical performances. We also attended for lessons there, for example mathematics and technology. We got a free lunch in there. The lunch was totally different than ours school. The day was brilliant! Selly Park Technology Collage was quite big, compared to ours which is a small 200 students’ school. The school was very cozy and it was much colorful than our school. After SP we went to Archbishop Ilsley Catholic Technology College for waiting our hosts to get home. Meanwhile waiting, this lovely French teacher gave us a tour around the school. On the evening, Niina spent time with her hosts. Emmi had a shopping day in the centre of Birmingham and she saw some sights.

Tuesday – October 19th

We visited Archbishop Ilsley Catholic Technology College on Tuesday. We attended the lessons with our hosts and we met their school mates. We ate lunch together with our hosts, their friends and other Comenius members. The school was big compared to our school and Selly Park. It also was very pleasant and the walls were covered with posters. Later Niina went bowling with her hosts, their friends and Julia from Belgium. Emmi went shopping. People were very nice and hospitality! The day was amazing.
Wednesday – October 20th
In the morning it was time to say goodbyes to our host families. We arrived to the Birmingham airport about at 8 o’clock. We flew to Helsinki via Copenhagen and then to Oulu. We were home at ten o’clock.
We want to thank our teachers Anna and Pentti, both of the schools Selly Park and Archbishop Ilsley, our wonderful host families and everyone who has been involved to this Comenius project. You all together made our trip perfect and memorable!

Wonderful Birmingham

Our school members of the Comenius Project went to England In the middle of October. Pupils were hosted by very kind families. We spent there almost one week. We had a beautiful weather.
The first day I spent with my host family on sightseeing Birmingham. It’s a huge city with a big population. The city has a historical value but also it is very modern. Most of the people live in terraced houses, there are also some blocks of flats. In the center I visited the Bullring, the Symphony Hall, the Museum & Art Gallery.
The next day I was in Christians’ church on a mass. It was an amazing experience. I also met Dana’s (my host)grandparents. They were very friendly. It was great to meet true English people and have an opportunity to talk to them.
On Monday we were at lessons in the Selly Park College. We had English, science and music. In the evening a had an opportunity to see the great musical called Blood Brothers. It was in the Hippodrome Theatre. Very big and modern one.
On Tuesday I was at Dana’s lessons all day. I had a revision at maths, chemistry, English and History. On a technical lesson pupils were backing muffins. Then everyone tasted them and they were talking about their work. It was very interesting.
We had a great time in Birmingham and I’ll never forget it.

My Holiday

I had a very good time. It has been one of the best holidays of all my life. In July I stayed for two weeks in Canterbury. It was an excellent experience.
I was on a residence with people from around the world. I met Brazilian, Chinese, Japanese, French and Italian people. I learnt a lot of words in other languages, but now I can't remember them.
We went to London two days, one for cultural visits to the museums and the other for shopping in Oxford street. I love London; it is so cool and amazing. I spent all the day taking photos of the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, streets, underground, buses...of everything! It was so beautiful. The weather was a little cold but it was okay. About the food...it's horrible, definitely the worst thing on this travel.
I have three great memories. One is when I sang a song of my favourite band in the karaoke and everybody was listening to me. The other memory is when I met a boy, we fell in love and I won't forget him. The last memory is when all the people on the last day were painting t-shirts and flags with our names and dedications. I love them so much and I hope see them again.

Polish Coast Holiday

I was in Pobierowo, at the Baltic Sea in Poland ,with my family. I spend two weeks there and it was a very great holiday. I think Pobierowo is the most interesting city on Polish seaside. In the first week, sunny weather and high temperatures made this trip even better! The second week was a little rainy. Most of the time we rode bikes and traveled around. I was in the cinema and skatepark a few times. I also watched two football matches on a new pitch. Of course, sometimes I was at the beach.

Wonderful time

My holiday was quite diverse.
At the beginning I went with friends to Ukraine. After my return to Poland, after three days I went to Slovenia with his family for the next experience.
Then we went to Croatia for nearly two weeks.

The rest of the holiday I spent at home. This holiday was wonderful.

My Holiday in Madeira

I spent my last holiday in Madeira Island. I went there with my Parents. We got to Funchal by plane. We lived at an apartment near the city of Funchal, and spent nearly all of our time wandering and driving around the island, getting up early in the morning and going to for
a trip right after breakfast. We usually came back late, and then had dinner. On the first day we were very tired after the flight from Leipzig that we did not get to go for the trip, but just went to a small town (Paul do Mare). On the next day we drove to Funchal, which is the capital of Madeira. Madeira is part of Portugal where people speak Portuguese. On the following days we were driven around the island, which is very beautiful. I admired the beautiful landscape of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. The view was magnificent and that is why I took quite a few pictures. The weather was good and sunny. Our holiday was very successful.

My Holiday

I spent my holiday at work. In Niechorze this is small city near the sea, This is a typical resort village. I was working in a shop with souvenirs. There was everything that was related to the sea, seaside and much more. This shop was the largest in whole Niechorze. I worked 12 hour per day with a 3 hour break for lunch, sunbath, swim and explored the city and meet people. In the first week I became friends with the owner of a nearby bar, his name is Kuba. We spent a lot of time together talking about work, people and what happened in the city. We organized some karaoke nights for people working around my shop and his bar. To our surprise, it came a lot of people there. We talked about everything and drank beer, drinks and ate meat - grilled. In short time I got to know a lot of new people in Niechorze.
When I had a break I took care of my younger niece, she`s 9 y.o.. I taught her how to swim and dive. She swam very well for her young age. She is a very smart child. After work I helped Kuba in his small business I fried meat. Many times
I went to the disco “Baltyk” or “Dzazga” with my friends. Dzazga it’s a small club near the sea. In this club are two parquets on separate floors. It was a crazy time for me.
I was talking with people about nothing all night until cows come home. It was a very happy time for me. I have been in touch with the people encountered in Niechorze until now.
